A recent visit to the soup kitchen run by the Order of Franciscan Minors in Valletta proved to be a deeply moving and humbling experience. It was clear that this is far more than a place where meals are prepared and served. It is a community built on compassion, dignity, and quiet generosity.
Working alongside dedicated volunteers, a strong sense of teamwork was evident throughout. Every task, no matter how small, plays a role in supporting those who rely on the service, highlighting the value of collective effort.
Time was also spent gaining insight into the kitchen’s operations, including the coordination required to keep everything running smoothly, the reliance on donations, and the careful planning that ensures resources are used responsibly and efficiently.
Another important part of the day involved sorting donated food items. This behind-the-scenes contribution highlighted both the generosity of the wider community and the responsibility of ensuring each donation is used effectively. Preparing packed lunches for takeaway meals further reinforced the kitchen’s commitment to reaching as many people as possible, extending its support beyond its immediate setting.
This marked the second time that members of the Class Optical team have volunteered to support the soup kitchen, and it is increasingly becoming a meaningful part of our ongoing CSR efforts. Providing opportunities for our team to engage in this kind of experience, both giving and receiving, continues to reinforce the values of empathy, awareness, and community.
Throughout the experience, one feeling stood out above all: a strong sense of care and humanity. What began as an act of giving quickly became something more reciprocal, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.
We are grateful for the opportunity to dedicate part of our working time to such an inspiring initiative as part of our CSR commitment. Experiences like this strengthen our appreciation for the power of community and compassion.
